Would You Like to Help Us Make a Difference?
Childhood hunger is a hidden reality on Cape Cod. If you would like to help make a difference, support Food 4 Kids by volunteering your time this summer.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally funded child nutrition program whose goal is to feed children and teens ages 1-18 during the summer months when they do not have access to free/reduced school meals. Food 4 Kids, a ministry of The Church of the Holy Spirit – Orleans, is the only SFSP sponsor on the lower/outer Cape. By partnering with more than 15 different community sponsored rec programs, libraries and schools from Harwich to Provincetown, we are able to distribute free lunches and snacks to 400-500 children Monday-Friday for 9 weeks in the summer. We make and distribute those meals with a very small paid staff and the generous efforts of volunteers like you at:
The Church of the Holy Spirit
204 Monument Road
Orleans, MA 02653
We hope you will sign up here to help with:
FOOD PREPARATION: Volunteers work in the kitchen from 7:30 - 9:30 am preparing and wrapping sandwiches.
PACKING LINE: Volunteers work in assembly line fashion to pack lunch bags and load them into coolers from 9:30 - 11 am.
MISCELLANEOUS PREPARATION: From 11 am -12:30 pm volunteers help prepare for the following day - whatever is needed: bagging cookies, washing/cutting fresh fruit and vegetables, breaking down boxes, cleaning coolers, etc.
If you find a slot you want is full, we hope you will try another one. We are trying to balance out our volunteer teams this year. If you would like to do more than we have openings for, contact us and we'll work with you to find a job and time that works for all of us!
