MOVING DAY SUPPORT
Been eating your spinach? We need 5 strong folks on JUNE 17 starting at 8 am, to help move equipment and supplies (coolers, shelving, A-frame boards, freezer packs, etc.) from our storage unit to the church.
7:30 - 9:30 AM, MEAL PREPARATION: Work in the kitchen preparing fresh-made lunches under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager. This is a fairly fast-paced, production line making nearly 900 lunches every morning!
9:30 - 10:15/10:30 AM, PACKING LINE: Work in assembly line fashion to pack lunch bags and load them into coolers. You can combine with early morning Meal Preparation, late morning Food Preparation, or a Dump Run to make efficient use of your time.
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM, FOOD PREPARATION: Work in the kitchen helping prepare ingredients for the following day under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager. A more relaxed pace compared to the early food preparation, tasks may include cooking, washing/cutting fresh fruit, dividing bulk packs into single-serve, breaking down boxes, etc.
11:00 am or after, Dump Run
Pick up recycling at the church and bring to your local town's recycling center. Typical load includes a trunk full of cardboard.
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Tuesday Harvest Helpers: Be a fresh produce hero!
You will assist Food 4 Kids' Hydroponics Agricultural Leader with harvesting Romaine lettuce, packing it into storage bins, and delivering it to The Church of the Holy Spirit. The location varies each week across the Nauset Schools in Wellfleet, Eastham, Orleans, and Brewster.
OPEN TO PUBLIC on May 25: 1-2 hours, DELIVER MEALS: Deliver meals to sites across the Lower and Outer Cape. Pick ups range from 10:00 am - 11:30 am depending on the destination. Consistency is key to get familiar with the routine, so we encourage you to sign up for the same site for an entire week or the same site for multiple dates.
The following roles bring the joy of interacting with the kids and require a CORI and SORI (Criminal and Sexual Offender Record Information) check.
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM, DRIVE + SERVE at Truro Library or Brewster Ladies Library: We need 2-4 consistent volunteers for this once/week opportunity on Wednesdays. Pick up packed coolers, drive to one of the libraries and serve lunch to the kids. A 1-hour Site Supervisor training is required.
Host or Prep for BOOK EVENTS: Be a Literacy Hero! New for the 2026 season, F4K will be hosting 20 free book days across various meal sites. There are two opportunities to support:
1) HOST with a friend: We need 2 smiling faces with strong bodies to set up the event at the meal site, help children choose books to take home and enjoy while school is out for the summer, and then pack up.
2) SELECT + PACK: We need someone who can select appropriate books based on age, pack crates of books and move them to get ready for distribution.
11:15 AM - 12:45 PM, GRAB & GO @ The Church of the Holy Spirit (reserved for parishioners of CHS)
Two CHS parishioners will serve lunch to community members from 11:30 - 12:30 pm each weekday. Please don’t leave someone to do it on their own! If you can’t make it, let us know.
NEW FOR ‘26 - SITE SUPERVISOR: We need one volunteer to take on more responsibility as the Grab & Go Site Supervisor ONCE/WEEK. A 1-hour Site Supervisor training is required.
Flexible, MEAL SITE MONITOR: We need 1 consistent smiling and courteous individual support our Program Manager with required USDA and MA DESE meal site reviews. The volunteer position involves driving to a lunch site and, using a checklist, observing lunch service to ensure Site Supervisors are following USDA guidelines. Before monitoring a site, you are required to complete a recorded 30-minute training. You are responsible for providing your own car and gas.
This volunteer role has been filled for the summer!
